| Once again we know virtually
nothing of who 'Rutledge'
was apart from the fact that he created illustrations for British
publishers
around 1880 -1900.
This image shows a pair of
London Fancy canaries with a chick that has just
left the nest. Interestingly, the chick's plumage and clear cap, lend
support
to the theory of the London Fancy having been a mutation from the
Lizard
canary.
Rutledge was
arguably not in the same artistic league as Lydon or Ludlow
artistically
but he has left us some valuable images and insights into 'the way it
was'.
